Backtesting In Excel
This is an introductory video of how to perform a backtest in Excel. With some practice and experimentation, more complicated backtests can be performed.

Excel is an excellent tool to learn how backtesting works. However, after watching the video and inspecting the Excel file above, one can see several drawbacks to using Excel

Testing strategies that use sophisticated rules or require data from numerous markets can be complicated and challenging to backtest
A better solution to excel is using a programming language. C++ and Python tend to be the most common languages used in Quantitative Finance. You can learn more about backtesting using Python by visiting the September 24th, 2018 meeting page.
